About

Steven had a career as a tradesman doing telecommunications and electronic security before deciding to go back to university to study psychology. Throughout 6 years of study, Steven has worked as a volunteer counsellor at an aged care center for several years while studying, as well as doing a year as a pastoral care volunteer at his church. Steven has practiced in Toowoomba, the Gold Coast, and the Greater Brisbane area and has experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and beliefs.

Steven’s therapeutic approach is warm, but direct. He believes that psychology’s primary role is to resolve upsetting symptoms and help people live life as fully as is possible within their circumstances. Therapy often involves a combination of hard conversations, laughs, and setting goals and targets to improve life. He believes therapy to be a place where you can discuss anything – no matter what. This is not to say he has all the answers – but he may be able to direct you to the people who do. If it’s too awkward/hurtful/bad/’you-can’t-say-that’/embarrassing – he can make a place for those conversations.

Where therapy involves faith, Steven is happy to work with all kinds and types of questions: Concerns about faith, concerns about church, the people in church, difficulties of ministry and church leadership, sexuality in the context of faith, complex church relationships, etc.
